Week 5 Dreamweaver Stencils Flora and fauna

The last week in May where is this year going.  For my final post this month I thought both Flora and Fauna should be included.  So here is my card.

Technique wise I have used a basic Embossing paste Technique and then added colour using the Metallic FX and a glue pad.

This is what you will need to create the card

Dreamweaver Stencil LM148, Metallic FX powders:- Gold dust, Eye of the Tiger, Kiwi and Navajo Sky, White matte embossing paste, a palette glue pad, a jumbo finger dauber, a  White Tag (mine was approximately 21/2'' by 41/2 ''), a 6'' x 6'' square of patterned paper, a piece of different patterned paper approximately 3'' by 5'', a 6'' x6'' white blank card, 2 small pieces of organza ribbon  and the usual palette knife, low tack tape, kitchen paper, dish for cleaning stencils and stencil brushes

And this is how you create it:-

Using the low tack tape attach  the stencil and tape around all four sides of your stencil.  Take the palette knife and apply the paste to the design.  Once this is complete remove the stencil Tand place in water and put to the design to one side to dry. The stencil should now be washed and cleaned and dry ready for the next step.

Re-attach the stencil to the tag and with the jumbo dauber and the palette glue pad cover the design tap gently over the image but make sure you get a good coverage of the ink/glue.  Remove the stencil and  with a heat gun heat the design the amount of time it takes to complete this process is usually about the length of time it takes to sing Happy Birthday 3 times, (I don't know why but it just works).  The final stage is to apply the colour to your design using the Metallic FX powders and Stencil brushes.  This is where your imagination can come in you do what ever colour choice you want.   After the powder has been applied the final stage is to matte and layer the card, in my case I cut into the patterned paper to create a corner that the tag would fit in.

Hope its given you some more ideas and got you create thoughts going.

This is what the rest of the Dream Team have been doing this week with Flora and Fauna

New Stencils from Dreamweaver

The Dream Team is ready to inspire you with some extra fun this week! Not only are we posting with the Flora and Fauna challenge, we are introducing you to our THREE NEWLY RELEASED DESIGNS...our Owl Buddy, the Open Sheep, and the art nouveau-inspired Heron, which you had a sneak peek at two weeks ago on the Dream It Up! blog. Three lucky commenters on the Dream Team's posts will receive one of these designs to be announced on the Dream It Up! blog next week. Tell us in your comment which technique YOU would use with your favorite of these new designs.

As this week we are using the new design stencils I have put 2 projects on my blog today.  The first  is one I had to do, I had to use the Owl Buddy.  As soon as I saw the stencil I thought don't make a card make a door hanging......... so that is what I've done.

This is what you will need:-

Owl buddy stencil LL3039, Metallic FX powders:- Nouveau Orange, Goldfinch, Eye of the Tiger and  Pewter, Matt White embossing paste,Dreamweaver Dies DD003 Leafy Branch and DD002 Monstera leaf, Die cutting machine, Door Hanger, Blue and white acrylic paint, Black micron pen, Glossy accents, make up sponge, low tack tape, Palette knife, Stencil brush, heat gun,  pieces of card in blac,k brown, dark green and olive green and equipment to clean your stencils.

Heres how to complete the project

1  Paint the door hanger with the blue acrylic paint , once dry apply small amount of the white acrylic paint using the make up sponge and leave to dry.
2  Take a piece of black card and attach the stencil to this using low tack tape around all 4 sides, apply the Matt white paste with the Palette knife.  Remove the stencil and put in water ready for cleaning.
3  Take the Metallic FX powders and stencil brush and tap the powder over the design so that the powder leaves a layer, apply as much of the powder as you want to give the colour you want and then tap the excess off the card, the paste will retain the powder that has been dusted on. Use the heat gun to heat the paste and to give the Molten Magic technique.  Leave the piece to one side to make sure that it is completely dry.
4  When the image is fully dry take  scissors and trim all around the design leave a border of about 1/16th inch surrounding the design.
5  Use the die cutting machine and cut out approximately 5 of the leafy branch in brown and 12 of the Monstera leaf (6 in dark green and 6 in olive green).  My die cutting machine is a Big Shot.

6  Put your design together, I made sure that my owl was sitting on the leaves.  I added dimension to the leaves by curling and bending so that there was some shape to them.

Theres your door hanging, ready for some one to put on their door.

My second project involves flowers, I don't know about you but I love flowers, and with summer fast approaching flowers can give inspiration in many ways.  This week I have chosen my all time favourite stencil, Dreamweaver Stencil LL375 the long stem rose.  This is such a versatile stencil and can be used for so may occasions :- Sympathy,Valentine, Birthday, Anniversary and so the list goes on.

The card is the Diamond Fold design taken from one of the Hot Off The Press CD

To make the card here is what you will need:-

Dreamweaver Stencil LL375 Long stem Rose, white matte embossing paste, Stencil brushes, Cross Stitch Mesh, Kitchen paper, Palette knife, low tack tape, Distress ink pad (Brushed Corduroy), Patterned paper, self adhesive gems, cream card and equipment to clean the stencil.

This is how I created the card:-

Take the stencil and tape to a piece of cream card, tape only down one side and using a stencil brush apply the distress ink pad through the stencil.  The technique I used for this is the rouging technique, put ink on to the brush and tap off the excess on to scrap paper and then apply to the design using small circular movements lightly going over the stencil.  To get a deeper colour add layers. Remember you can always add colour but you can't take it away. The one piece of tape holding the stencil forms a hinge and the stencil will return to the correct place. This colouring will become the shadow of your rose.  To check your colour keep lifting the stencil to see if you have achieved the right depth.  When the colour is right remove the stencil and clean the stencil as when applying the embossing paste you don't want to contaminate the colour of the paste.

Once cleaned replace the stencil over the image BUT before you  tape the stencil back in place move it slightly diagonally towards the bottom right hand corner of the design, a small outline of cream card will be revealed now you can tape the stencil in place on all 4 sides using the low tack tape.  Take the Palette knife and apply the matte white embossing paste. Remove the stencil and tape and clean.  The image will have an outline of the ink down the left hand side, and gives the impression of a shadow.

Once the paste is dry place the Cross stitch mesh over the design and then place the stencil over the top of this.  The paste image should be exactly in line with the stencil.  Take the stencil brush and stipple through the stencil with gentle tapping movements.  The same application technique applies go from light to dark and apply layers of colour until the colour you want is achieved.

At this point I removed my Cross stitch mesh and very lightly rouged over the top of the stencil to give a blended subtle colour over the whole of my design.

The final stage was to construct my card.  I really enjoyed making this card as it had so many techniques the I like doing and they can be achieved so easily.  I hope my ideas have given you food for thought and inspired you to have a go.

Dreamweaver Stencils: Fun with Flora and Fuana

Welcome to the merry month of May! The Dream Team are challenging you this month to a "Flora and Fauna" theme! Considering most of the Dreamweaver designs incorporate both of these in the huge variety of stencils, you should have no problem playing along with our challenge this month! As usual, link your creations at the end of the Dream It Up! blog post, or at the end of our posts where it says, "Add Your Link". As the challenge gets underway, you'll see thumbnails of others who are playing along as inspirations for your own creations!

Flora and fauna are around us all the time, nature at its best.

My first contribution to the Dream Team and I thought I would produce something that used the basic paste embossing technique and combine this with relaxing Zentangle.  My colour choice was black, cream and gold

Heres my creation:

.
This is what you'll need

Dreamweaver Stencil LG656, Gold embossing paste, Card in black, cream and gold mirri,
a black micron pen,  a palette knife and spreader, low tack tape,  small piece of gold satin ribbon,  small adhesive gold gem stones, stick adhesives, 3D foam and cleaning equipment dish and soft brush for stencils.

This is how to create

1  Take a piece of black card and attach the stencil to it taping around all 4 sides using low tack adhesive tape.  Using a palette knife apply the Gold embossing paste. (When attaching a stencil to card I always tape in the same order..........top, bottom , and the 2 sides. This helps when the time comes for removing the stencil from the card.)  Remove the stencil from the card and clean stencil and allow the paste design to dry.

2 The next step is the cream card panel, take a narrow piece of cream card and attach the stencil. When attaching the stencil this time only tape on one side (I only used tape on one side as this enables me to lift the stencil and to see where I am with the design).  Take the micron pen and trace through the design. Remove the stencil.  The next step is where the calming effect comes in, now start to Zentangle the design using any pattern you like. For mine I used basic circle and zig zag patterns.

3   Once the panel is finished it is simply a case of matting and layering the pieces together and as finishing touches I tied a piece of Gold coloured satin ribbon around the spine of the card and put gold adhesive gems in the corners of the black card.

I'm going to leave you with this now but remember to check out the other Dream Team designs and inspirations.

Please welcome our new "B" team, officially posting for the first time!
