Crafty Card Makers and Woodware Shabby Chic or Distressed Card - Day 3

This week we have been looking at shabby Chic and distressed cards and are sponsoring the challenge at Crafty Cardmakers
.

One of the easiest  ways to distress is to emboss the card  and then use a sanding block to remove the surface, or by roughening the edges with a distressing tool to 'distress' the .edges.  I figured the  card I have made could be used for many occasions.

So here is my card

These are the items used

7'' x 7'' White base card
2 pieces of different black card both white cores
Francosie Collection Fancy Flower FRS207
Small piece of white card
2 Random embossing folders
Corner rounding punch
Black Pigma Micron pen
Cream adhesive vintage lace

This is how the card was made

1  Take the 7'' x 7'' Base card and fold in half

2  Take one of the pieces of black card  and cut 2 smaller pieces of card and next take the second piece of black card and cut a slightly larger square and finally with the small piece of white card cut a square that  will leave a border showing on the black larger black square. You will also need to cut 2 strips of one of the black cards

3  Before going any further use the corner rounder and round all the corners on all four pieces.

4  Using one of the embossing folders and the 2 smaller black square and emboss.  Use the other folder and the larger black square and emboss.

5  Use a sanding block and gently rub over the surface of the embossed squares.  Then use the distressing tool  and run this along the edges  to give a rough texture to the edge. The 2 strips are also distressed with the tool along the long edges.

6  At this point I put the card together as far as I could.  The strips are attached top and bottom about 1/8th inch from the edges..Along these strips place the adhesive lace, cut off at the edge of the card.  The smaller squares are placed centrally about 1/8th inch from each side, the larger black is attached using either 3D foam or silicone glue.

7  The final stages are using the white square.  Take a black Momento ink pad and stamp the flower image, only ink the flower don't include the stem and leaves. The image should be stamped on the diagonal of the square.

8  Its now time to doodle and colour areas of the flower, as you can see in the picture above.

The doodles were not complicated as some of the areas are very tiny.  The last thing is to attach the white panel to the central black square, and again I used silicone glue to get dimension.

There you have the card, to be honest I don't do distressed but I think with this card I managed and enjoyed the process.

Floral Free for All Day 4

This time of year flowers are everywhere.  They have so much brightness that is so pleasing.  This week I have combined a country photograph (Near Litton Falls, Skipton) with punched flowers.  The fold of this card can be either down the spine or the top  of the card.

So here is my card for this week .

This is what I used:-

Base card A4 folded in half
Piece of pastel patterned paper for the matt inside the card
Black Micron pen
Very pale pastel patterned paper for the cherry blossom
Silver and gold adhesive stones
Small cherry blossom punch
Leonie Em assorted leaf punch
Distress ink pad
London fog Momento ink pad
Woodware white paper flower
Liquid pearls
Dutch Doobadoo Butterflies
Kaliedascope Embossing Powder

This is how I did the card

1  Take the A4 sheet of card and fold in half to make base card.  In the front of the card cut an aperture slightly smaller than the photograph  to the right hand side.  The size of the aperture depends on your photo.

2  Using the cherry blossom punch punch numerous flowers, I punched approximately 31 . flowers.  Using a pokey tool shape the petals on the flowers.  I placed the pokey tool down the centre of each petal and nip the petal between your thumb and first finger.

3 In the centre of each flower I placed an adhesive stone in the centre of each flower in both gold  and silver.  As an alternative you could use liquid pearls, stickles glitter glue, flower soft and similar things.

4  Around the edge of the card draw a couple of lines - freehand.  The lines should wiggle so that the intertwine.

Do the same around the outer edge as well.

5  Cut a  matt for the inside of the card this should be 5mm smaller on 3 sides of this card. and once in place, place the photo in the correct position and attach to card.

6 Take the flowers and place them so that they flow from the top left hand to the right bottom. The amount can be as many or as few as you as you want, my card had 31 cherry blossom.  These are attached to the card using a PVA glue

Top left hand corner                                                                      Bottom right hand corner

I kept the bottom left hand corner empty so that the sentiment could be placed there.

7  Using the Leonie Em assorted leaf punch punch the leaves out 3 or 4 times.  I used a green patterned  paper.  With this punch a thinner weight of paper is better for punching. Tuck these  amongst the flowers, attach these again with PVA glue.

8 With the Butterflies I used one of the large butterfly and 2 of the smallest butterfly.  I first of all coloured the butterflies with a distress ink and then after the butterflies were dry I covered them with a versamark ink pad and then covered this with Kaliedascope Embossing powder, heated it with a heat gun.  I attached the butterflies to the flowers and leaves, the large butterfly I placed in the flowers in the top corner and one of the smaller ones on a leaf in the bottom corner.

9  For the sentiment I used a  set of clear magic stamps and combined the just for you and with love, These were stamped in Momento London fog on to white card, .  This was then matted onto a matt of the same paper as the inside of the card.  Around the edge of the white card I did the 2 wiggle lines in black micron pen (the same as base card.

The final stage was to use a Woodware white paper flower and the colour was applied by just dabbing the distress ink pad and then sprinkled with water.  To speed the process I dried this flower with a heat gun.  I attached the third butterfly to this flower using  liquid pearls.

There you have this weeks card  I hope you like it.

Raining Cats and Dogs Day 5

Most people have a favourite pet be it a Cat, Dog or any other animal.  They can be protective, firm friends loyal and have their own minds.  Years ago my pet was a poodle, he protected not only the family but property and car.  Today I have gone for the cat side of the title, and a bit of poetic licence with the rain as my backing strip is raining with hearts, and with using the  Stentangle technique I have only used cream black and gold.

So here is this weeks card

and this is what I used

6'' x 6'' Blank cream linen card
Strip of black paper with 'raining' hearts
Cat Stencil LL3020
Black card
Cream hammered paper
Double sided tape
Gold liquid pearls
Corner rounder punch
Black micron pigma pen 0.3

This is how I made the card:-

1  Take the piece of black card and cut a square of the this and also a rectangle the size of the cat stencil, use the corner rounder on all corners of the 2 black matts.

2 Take the cream hammer paper and cut 2 pieces the same size, my pieces were approx. 5mm larger than the rectangle of black card.

3  Around the 2 hammer matts use the 0.3 Black micron pigma pen and do faux stitching round the edges.

4  Cut a strip of the black and gold heart paper approx. 2.5cm wide.

5  Take one of the cream faux stitched matts and place the stencil on the centre of the paper to stop the stencil moving whilst the design is drawn use a small piece of low tack tape.  The Black pigma micron pen is used to draw the design through the stencil

6  Each of the shapes drawn is then decorated with doodles whatever you want dots, squares, lines flowers.

7  The various matts and layers are then attached to the  base card and finally the liquid pearls are applied in the different corners.

There you have this weeks card, I hope you like it.

Happy Days Day 6

Well were has May gone, and we're practically half way through June. The weather will be hopefully be lovely and the good days at the end of May won't be Summer.  Time will tell.

For myself  any day can be a happy day, just to send a card to say Hello or Just a Note....... can make someone smile. This week I have gone for a really minimalistic style.  I was looking through a book of card sketches and I saw this one I have used for my card and thought it could be used for many options.

So here is my card (and its really quick.)

The things I used

One of the stamps out of the inspiration bags Small Geisha
Sakura glaze and souffle pens
White DL card blank
2 different blue paper and card and a scrap of white card
Stampendous frame dies
Black Stazon inkpad
Adhesive gems

This is what I did

1  Fold DL white  card in half.

2   Cut the patterned paper so that there is a border of about 5mm all around the front panel attach this to the front of the card.

3  Cut a rectangle of white card the same width as the patterned paper on the front of the card and 3cm deep.

4  Cut a rectangle of blue card (mine was a textured surface) and cut  the same width as the patterned paper and 2.5 cm deep.

5  On another scrap of white card stamp the little geisha girl and colour this in using the Gelly roll pens............glaze,souffle and sparkle.

6  Once coloured in use the frame dies from Stampendous, use the smaller to cut the stamped design and the cut the larger one in a different blue............mine was a piece of Turquoise pearl card,.  Attach these 2 pieces together.

7 Put the layers of the card together.  Finally as my backing paper had flowers on it I applied 3mm self adhesive gems to the centres of all the flowers, and then took 3 x 5mm self adhesive gems and placed these in a row on the blue panel across the card.

There you have it for me this is a happy card and must admit as I was colouring the little geisha I smiled as I remembered making other cards using similar stamps.

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely week, for more ideas remember to check out the  Woodware blog.

Bye for now
